Jigs

Jigs are usually made by forming a lead head near the eye of a hook that is bent at a ninety-degree angle to the shaft. The hook can be covered with a variety of things to imitate something fish would like to eat. Jigs are some of the simplest artificial baits made and also some of the most effective. They will catch almost any fish that swims

Bucktails

Jigs with hair bodies tied to the shaft of the hook are usually called bucktails because they're often made of deer hair. They can be as small or as big as needed for the kind of fish you're going after, and the weight can vary for any depth you need to fish. The hair can be dyed any color or combinations of colors desired. Small bucktails are good for panfish and huge ones will catch big-game fish in salt water.

Bucktails are included in survival kits for military pilots to help pilots find food no matter where they might be in an emergency situation. Bucktails are simple to use and effective under a wide variety of conditions.

Rubber Skirts

Jigs with rubber skirts are common in bass fishing. The rubber allows the jig to sink faster than similar-sized hair jigs, and it waves enticingly in the water. Some rubber jigs are grub shaped and others are fish shaped; some have a swimming tail, others a flat tail. All of them can be hopped along the bottom like hurt or feeding baitfish or like crawfish, or they can be reeled along with a steady movement to look like a moving baitfish.
