Surviving the Rat Race
Be mindful of the following useful tips when using feng shui to achieve your career goals:
Location, appearance, and the history of your place of business are critical. Landscape design, surrounding elements–such as bodies of water or roads–sharp corners on the site, shape and height of nearby buildings, as well as the history of other businesses that may have occupied your building all play a role in the success of your business.
The lobby should be warm, welcoming, bright, and airy, as should the reception areas. These spaces should not be too open, however, or visitors may pass by too quickly.
Cubicles should be welcoming, and should reflect as much of the occupant's personal tastes as possible. Plants or feng shui articles like mirrors and crystals can help instill life and increase energy flow in the space. Make your cubicle feel a bit homelike, if you can.
Even in a cubicle, try to arrange things so you can see who is coming up behind you–say, by using a mirror. You may also need a mirror to help you see the entrance of the office.
If you are in direct line with a door, create a barrier. Being in the “line of fire,” so to speak, will keep you always on the defensive. The lack of privacy is bound to make you feel like you're always being watched. You could do something as simple as placing a plant near the entrance of your cubicle, or even perhaps create a small screen using a drapery or beads.
Keep up with cleanliness and clutter removal. Don't be a clutter junkie. Retaining old memos, files, and messages will only keep you in the past and prevent your moving toward the future.
Live in harmony with coworkers. Keep gossip and negativity out of your work life, and you will become a conduit of good.
Consider direction, not only for office furnishings but for yourself.
If you're making a presentation that is critical to your advancement, for instance, try placing your body in the most auspicious direction you can.
In general, career advancement using the principles of feng shui has to do with sending positive energy into the Universe so that it will come back to you. Work in accordance with the Universal Law: What you put out is what you are likely to receive.
