Shaken Baby Syndrome
One consequence of having a baby who cries inconsolably is that it can lead some inexperienced parents to harm their baby. The baby might be forcibly shaken to the point that she develops bleeding in and around her brain, which can cause either permanent brain damage or death. Even a brief episode of shaking, for five or ten seconds, or a single blow against the floor, bed, or another surface, can cause brain damage.
To prevent shaken baby syndrome, simply remember to never shake your baby. If your baby's crying is getting you to the point that you're so frustrated you think you might shake your baby, get help right away, either from a family member, friend, or by calling 911 if no one else is available to help you before you might harm your child.
