The First Birthday Party
Like many of your baby's other firsts, the first birthday party can be the most exciting one. Your baby may or may not understand that the party is for her, but either way, the first birthday is a happy celebration for parents, friends, and other family members.
One fun trend in infant birthday parties is for your baby to have a small, separate, baby-safe cake. While you will neatly cut another cake for guests, this cake can be just for your baby, who can make a mess and simply eat it with her hands. Or maybe she will just get her face and mouth right into the cake.
While letting your baby eat her first birthday cake can be fun, make sure that you only give her a baby-safe cake. That means no ingredients that she might have problems with, like nuts or other choking hazards.
These parties can be fun, even if your baby doesn't know that it's her birthday. You don't have to spend a lot of money on it by renting a Bounce House or hiring a clown. A simple, informal party can be just as much fun, especially if your baby is very shy or anxious around crowds. Try to schedule it between nap and meal times to avoid dealing with a guest of honor who is already not in the best mood because she is tired or hungry.
