Staying in Touch: The Beauty of Cell Phones
Cell phones were invented for pregnant couples to stay in touch with each other. Well, okay, that may be stretching it a little, but they are extremely useful during this time. Almost everyone has a cell these days, but if you're one of the last hold-outs, you may wish to rethink your position and get mobile service.
Not long ago, birth coaches were advised to bring lots of dimes and quarters with them when they came to the hospital for labor and delivery. After the birth, they made their calls from the pay phone in the hallway to let people know that the baby had arrived. Now, loading down your pockets with change is no longer necessary, and pay phones are steadily becoming obsolete.
You can obviously take pictures with the phone's built-in camera too. But the biggest advantage to cell phones is that they let you keep in touch with your partner as you get closer and closer to the big day. Then, when you get that panicky call from her telling you that she has indeed gone into labor and needs you to come home right away, you can respond instantaneously.
