Get Away!

Of course, you don't have to give the newlyweds something that they can unwrap. If they're putting every penny they have into their wedding, there may be precious little left for their honeymoon. You can step up and save the day — or at least part of it — by contributing to their honeymoon fund.

You can set up an entire honeymoon fund for them through your travel agent. If other family members are at a loss for a gift, they can contribute to the fund and defray the cost. However, if you're the one who has initiated this idea, you'll have to pay the balance. You wouldn't want to stick your daughter with that bill.

Another way to help out in this arena is to call in any favors from friends with great vacation homes. If you can help the happy couple pare down the cost of a getaway, they may suddenly feel as though they can afford it.

FACT

If you've been sitting on your frequent-flier miles or if you have connections in the travel industry, now's a good time to put them to use. Finagling a deal for cut-rate tickets for the newlyweds alleviates a lot of spending stress for them, which is a great gift in itself.
