Adams Morgan/Woodley Park

Windsor Park Hotel 202-483-7700

Parking is available on the street. Major credit cards are accepted.

TRAVEL TIP

The old rule that rooms in the District are cheaper on the weekend because of the glut of business travelers on weekdays no longer holds true. Computers, the Internet, and increasing tourist travel have all allowed hotels to finely hone their pricing, to the point where rates vary almost day to day. Your best travel bet is to use one of the travel sites listed earlier.

Adams Inn www.adamsinn.com

This bed-and-breakfast, located between Calvert Street and Ontario Road, is composed of three turn-of-the-twentieth-century townhouses that have been combined to make a total of twenty-six rooms, some of which do not have bathrooms of their own. This is a charming Old-World inn furnished in a faux Victorian style. In keeping with that décor, the rooms do not have televisions or phones, but there is a pay phone in the lobby, and the hotel will take messages for you. There is also a communal television room and a refrigerator and microwave for guest use. There is a washer and dryer for guest use, and a free continental breakfast is offered in the morning.

Room rates are $89 for a double without a bathroom, $99 to $129 for rooms with a bathroom, but are due for an increase. Weekly rates are available. Major credit cards are accepted. Parking is an additional $10 per night, depending on availability. The closest Metro stop is a hike.

Kalorama Guest House at Kalorama Park 202-667-6369

Kalorama Guest House at Woodley Park www.kaloramaguesthouse.com

The Mintwood Place location, between 19th Street and Columbia Road, is composed of four townhouses. The Cathedral Avenue branch is housed in two townhouses.

Though small by hotel standards, these charming inns both offer a great location for a great price. They are a good option if you don't mind sharing a bathroom (this is actually perfect for families or friends traveling together, and there are rooms with private baths) and possibly not having a television or phone in your room. Show the kids what life used to be like. There are a limited number of rooms with TVs, and only rooms in Mintwood have phones, but there is a communal television room for those who just can't live without the tube, and there is a phone in the lobby where you can make free local calls (the inn will take messages for you). A free continental breakfast is served every morning as well as lemonade, cookies, and sherry each afternoon, and an evening sherry to help you relax. Children must be six years of age or older. Room rates are $100 for a double with a shared bathroom, $115 for a double with bathroom. Parking is an additional $15. Major credit cards are accepted.
