Restaurant Week This occurs one week, twice a year, in January and August. During Restaurant Week, the city's finest restaurants offer patrons a three-course prix fixe lunch for the price of the year, such as $20.06for 2006. Dinner is usually $10 more. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Every third Monday of January, the city hosts a variety of activities, such as speeches by civil rights leaders, lectures, readings, theatrical performances, and concerts. There's also the laying of a wreath at the Lincoln Memorial and the playing of King's “I Have a Dream” speech. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library usually hosts some commemorative events. Presidential Inauguration

January 20 after a presidential election is the day of presidential inauguration. This is always a major production in D.C. The swearing-in ceremony takes place in front of the Capitol, and crowds line the sidewalks. Afterwards, the new president and his entourage head toward the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue. The entire day features free public events, such as concerts and parades, as well as many semi-private parties.

Washington Auto Show

D.C.'s premier automobile show is held at the Washington Convention Center. Check out the newest models and dream cars. It's fun for the entire family. Adults, $10; children six to twelve, $5; under five, free. Visit www.washingtonautoshow.com.
