Not only is Washington D.C. a great city for museums and historical and government sites, but it has some truly fabulous buildings and arts centers that compete with those of other major cities. Much of D.C. was built in the 1950s and 1960s. It is an American city that features significant architectural accomplishments of the international architectural style of glass and steel, such as the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library and the Kennedy Center.
