Renting a Car
You don't need a car in D.C. itself, but if you have business or vacation plans in the surrounding areas of Virginia and Maryland (for instance, you plan to visit Mount Vernon), having a car is your best bet.
Car rentals are available at all three airports as well as at Union Station. Most, but not all, of the major car-rental chains have offices in the city.

Car rentals at the airports are often more expensive than at other locations, so be sure you price your package. Also ask about local taxes and surcharges.
If you are flying or taking Amtrak, inquire about fly/drive and fly/ drive/hotel packages when you purchase your ticket because they often can give you a good package deal.
