Are Children Welcome?
While the general public may equate RV travel with retired couples or empty nesters, more families with children are now enjoying the RV lifestyle. Some RV parks have embraced the concept of welcoming families with children while others have not.
Some RV parks are quite open about not wanting or allowing children. Advertising or directory listings will give clues to the focus of the park, whether it is oriented toward adults or toward families of all sizes and ages.
Look at directory listings for fees. If the listing says “per family,” you have a great clue that children are welcome. Look also at the recreational activities listed. If the park has a game room, kiddy pool, or playground listed, you can be sure children are welcome.
Many RV parks charge an additional per-day fee for more than two visitors per site. Some travelers feel this is unfriendly to families with children. This is a very gray area, however. In some cases, this is a way that RV parks encourage older RV couples and discourage families with children. It may also be a way of generating income for parks that have lower rates to entice visitors and then add on an additional fee.
You will have to decide if the park, based on its location and amenities, is worth the additional fee. If you wait to make reservations for a busy travel time, you may also have no choice in the matter if you want to travel at all.
FACT
Additional fees for additional visitors may be justified if utilities are not metered. More people will use more water, produce more waste, and use more electricity. This is a reasonable excuse for these fees.
