Barbes ($$)

For the semi-venturous kid and non-too-venturous adult, this evocative restaurant will have you crooning, “Come wiz me to de Casbah.” Barbes is an interesting Parisian quarter which has become home to emigrants of France's former North African colonies. The menu is a mixture of familiar French and interesting Moroccan. It's a kid-friendly place, and many of the modestly priced appetizers will serve them well. The adults will have a hard time choosing from a variety of fantasy meals. Great desserts, too. Reservations are recommended. Open Monday to Saturday 11:30
Nomad ($$)
78 Second Avenue (between 4th and 5th streets)
Second Avenue (F or V train); Astor Place (6 train)
212-253-5410
The kids will be awed by the spectacular North African/Moroccan décor. A very large menu yields enormous portions that must be shared. The mainstay, and always acceptable to kids, is the Couscous Royale, an epicurean feast for almost a pittance. Open Monday to Saturday from 4
