The vast majority of Vermont's visitors enter from the south, traveling Interstate 91 or Routes 7, 8, or 112 through Massachusetts en route to northern retreats. While their ultimate destination may still lie as much as three hours away, they are treated to distinctly Vermont scenes the moment they cross the state line. History, art, apples, sport, and syrup are all reasons to make southern Vermont, including Bennington, Brattleboro, and Manchester, more than a drive-by destination.
