Where to Go After Dark

Nightlife centers upon the hotels and restaurants around Península de Santiago. For a family fun night, head to the Colima Bay Café on Playa Azul where you can sit at oceanfront tables while eating giant shrimp and barbecued ribs. If the booming sound of disco beckons you, stop in at Club Maeva's Disco Boom Boom (where the name says it all). And chivalry isn't dead here. The cover charge is less for ladies. Or you may want to try Disco Vog, a disco on the highway at Playa Azul or Disco Solaris in the Hotel Playa de Oro. Cover charges range from $6 to $10.

JUST FOR PARENTS

For a unique experience, visit a local botanero (beer hall), a Colima specialty. Locals come to listen to mariachi music and watch stage shows while eating botanas (snacks) — plates of refried beans, guacamole, and ceviche — and drinking beer. You can even play the rifas (raffle). Some, like El Caporal, are only open from mid-afternoon to early evening.

You can also take in a Fiesta Méxicana at Club Maeva from 8:00 to 11:30 P.M. on Saturday nights for about $35 per person, including a full buffet and open bar. Kids pay half price (333-331-0800). Or you can try a similar all-you-can-eat feast at Manos Morenos Restaurant on Thursday nights during the winter season (314-333-0323).
