Getting Around Cozumel

Except for taxis, there's no public transportation on Cozumel. It's important to negotiate fares for taxis before you get in. The average one-way fare between the hotel zone and San Miguel is $6, but you could pay as much as $8 for hotels farther out. If you arrive by plane, it will cost $5 to $6 to take a van to your hotel. To see the island's color and have some fun, too, why not rent a car or a moped for $25 to $30 a day from Marlin Cars and Scooters (987-872-0433).

If you want more exercise, rent a bicycle along the waterfront or by the cruise ship pier. A new ciclopista (bike path) will take you from town to Parque Laguna Chankanaab (Chankanaab Lagoon Park). You can rent a bike for about $15 dollars a day or weekly for $65, including gloves, map, lock, pump and repair kit, rack, and helmet from Isla Bicycleta (cozumelbikes@gocozumel.com).
