Shopping

One of the most popular activities in Acapulco is shopping. Try shopping at the Mercado Parazal (open from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M.) on Calle Velásquez de Léon near the zócalo. It's noisy, it's crowded, and it's fun. Sort through stacks of leather sandals, sticky-sweet candy in rainbow colors, handmade silver jewelry, and piles of bright handpainted pottery. If you'd rather shop closer to your hotel, browse the stalls of the La Diana Flea Market further up the Costera at the Glorieta Diana. Air-conditioned shopping centers like La Gran Plaza and Plaza Bahía, art galleries, and boutiques line the Costera. Acapulco is known for its resort wear. Name a sophisticated brand — Givenchy, Cartier, Calvin Klein, or Gucci — and you'll find it in Acapulco. Most shops and boutiques open at 10 A.M. and stay open into the evening.
