Cautions and Safety Concerns

Generally, Acapulco is quite safe. The streets are well lit and policemen are visible all along the Costera in the tourist zone. In recent years, the city has cracked down on prostitutes and beggars along the Costera, making it safer to walk any time of day. Use common sense, keep your valuables concealed, and only take as much money with you as you think you'll need.

As at other Pacific resorts, tides at Acapulco can be dangerous, with a strong undertow. The city uses a flag system to warn bathers — a black or red flag indicates danger, a yellow flag means caution, and green or white flags mean it's safe to swim.
