The Local Weather

During the winter months (November through April), the average daytime temperature throughout the Cayman Islands is between 72 and 85 degrees. At night, the temperature drops to between 65 and 72 degrees. The average water temperature is between 78 and 82 degrees, which makes it ideal for swimming and participating in a wide range of water sports.

The summer months (May through October) are considered the rainy season. Daytime temperatures average between 85 and 90 degrees, while at night the temperature might drop to between 72 and 85 degrees. The average water temperature is between 81 and 85 degrees. It's not uncommon to experience a rain shower in the afternoon, which will often quickly pass and be replaced by sunshine.

While you can generally expect to experience nearly perfect weather during your visit, the time between June 1 and November 31 is considered hurricane season. If you'll be traveling to the Cayman Islands during this period, you might encounter a tropical storm or two, and perhaps a hurricane. These storms, however, are forecasted well in advance. If necessary, an evacuation plan will be implemented, although this is seldom necessary. It is, however, a good idea to purchase optional travel or hurricane insurance for your trip if you'll be traveling during hurricane season.

Especially during the rainy season, be sure to pack a lightweight, waterproof jacket and extra shoes/sneakers to ensure that you stay comfortable if you get caught in a rain shower.
