Packing for a Cruise

The atmosphere aboard most cruise ships is that of an informal, casual resort, so dress accordingly. That said, however, at least one night of the cruise will often be formal, with black tie optional in the dining room. A regular dress suit, however, is perfectly acceptable.

As you're getting ready for your cruise, the trick is to avoid overpacking! Several casual outfits, along with bathing suits, workout gear, one formal outfit, at least one pair of comfortable walking shoes, one pair of sneakers/hiking shoes, and one pair of dress shoes will be adequate. If you have beach shoes, those will come in handy as well. A light jacket or waterproof windbreaker and a sweatshirt will also be useful.

A great Web site with excellent packing tips and lists can be found at www.cruisediva.com. The packing lists are divided into three separate categories, for women, men, and babies, so you're sure to find your own needs represented. Two items that should be on everyone's list are a hat and sunscreen.
