Top Properties in the West

Gambling and golfing are the top draws in the Western United States, with timeshare resorts from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Scottsdale, Arizona, luring vacationers with warm winter weather and hot nightlife entertainment. Spas are also a big draw at many of these vacation properties, giving couples a chance to split up and have some alone time while being pampered by the staffs of their choice.

Following is a list of Western United States timeshares that continually receive high rankings from exchange companies and consumer groups alike.

Fairfield Las Vegas at Grand Desert, Las Vegas, Nevada

Less than a mile from The Strip, this timeshare resort has adult and children's swimming pools on site, as well as a health club, a game room, and exercise equipment. As most of your entertainment will take place on The Strip itself — everything from gaming to live shows to gourmet dining — the resort offers limited eating options, including a snack bar.

Demand is high all-year round for timeshare use in this hot spot of a city, so you'll have to book or buy early if you want to enjoy the amenities.

Timeshare units at the Fairfield Las Vegas at Grand Desert include one-, two-, and three-bedroom configurations, with the largest units sleeping as many as ten people privately. All of the units have private laundry facilities and air conditioning, and some units have full kitchens and/or fireplaces.

Hilton Grand Vacations Club at the Flamingo, Las Vegas, Nevada

This Resort Condominiums International Gold Crown property is right on Las Vegas Boulevard and offers timeshare units in studio and one- and two-bedroom configurations. All of the units have air conditioning, and some, depending on their size, also include full kitchens and/or private laundry facilities.

There is a casino on site, with additional amenities including a health club, swimming pool, tennis court, spa, and children's pool. Live shows take place nightly on stage, and a shopping area is just steps away from the timeshare units.

Park Plaza at Beaver Creek, Colorado

This timeshare resort, an Interval International Five Star Award-winner, is located in a resort community in Vail Valley that includes shops, restaurants, and an eighteen-hole golf course. In addition, Vail Valley itself encompasses more than 2,310 acres of ski slopes and trails, perfect for wintertime skiing enthusiasts or summertime hikers.

The timeshare units at Park Plaza are configured as two- and three-bedroom units, with some of the two-bedroom units sleeping six people and others sleeping as many as eight. On-site amenities at the resort include an indoor pool, a whirlpool, a steam room, and a sauna, while nearby offerings include fishing, theaters, horseback riding, and tennis.

Four Seasons Resort Aviara, North San Diego, California

One- and two-bedroom timeshare units are available at this posh resort, which has a Spanish Colonial-style ambience. Each of the units has multiple balconies and/or terraces, and the larger units' kitchens feature refrigerators, ranges, and dishwashers.

PGA superstar Arnold Palmer designed the eighteen-hole, par-seventy-two golf course on site, taking full advantage of the natural lagoon to create challenging water hazards. There are also four hard and two clay tennis courts on site, all lighted for night use. If you prefer to be pampered, you can enjoy a massage, facial, body wrap, or other service at the luxury spa.

Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale, Scottsdale, Arizona

This resort sits on forty acres in the Sonoran Desert and houses the Troon North golf complex, which includes two separate par-seventy-two courses that are so exceptional, they were given five-star ratings by Golf Digest magazine. The public is allowed to play here on nonmember days, but timeshare owners may reserve their tee times as much as ninety days in advance, thus virtually guaranteeing whatever time on the green suits your fancy.

Each two-bedroom villa is designed in traditional adobe architecture and includes a full kitchen, landscaped terrace or shaded balcony, and deep tub. Phase I of the development is entirely sold out, but Phase II units were still available at press time.

In-villa massages are available if you don't care to take advantage of the full-service spa, which also offers facials, body wraps, hair styling, and more. A pool and fitness center are also on site, and local activities include helicopter tours, bicycling, hiking, fishing, hunting, parasailing, mountain biking, and skeet shooting. There is also a children's club called Kids for All Seasons that provides partial- or full-day activities for little ones between the ages of five and twelve.

Sedona Summit, Sedona, Arizona

The Grand Canyon and a local Hopi Native American reservation are among the places you can explore with a stay at this resort in Red Rock country. Tours take place on foot, in Jeeps, and in hot-air balloons, all able to be arranged by the personnel at this Interval International Five Star Award timeshare resort.

On-site amenities include a playground, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, fitness center, and activities center. Nearby you can enjoy bicycling, horseback riding, shopping, and more. The largest timeshare units are two bedrooms sleeping six to eight people, and the smallest available are efficiencies good for two to four people. The nearest airport is in Phoenix, about 125 miles away.

The Ridge Tahoe, Stateline, Nevada

Summertime on Lake Tahoe offers a bevy of water-sports fun, while winters in nearby Carson Valley include some of the most scenic downhill skiing you'll find in the United States. Both seasons are high-demand times for The Ridge Tahoe, which offers all of that and more.

The resort's indoor recreation complex includes a swimming pool, a weight room, and courts for playing racquetball, badminton, and tennis. There is also an outdoor tennis court on site for summertime use, as well as a private gondola that will carry you to the Heavenly Valley Ski Resort during the colder months.

Timeshare units at this property are all two-bedroom vacation homes that sleep six people total. Each of the units has a full kitchen and a fireplace, and some of the units also have private laundry facilities. The closest major airport is in Reno, Nevada, about sixty-five miles away.
