Dieting Versus Your Diet
A diet is the food you eat. Dieting is a specific selection of food chosen to aid in weight loss, weight gain, or meeting particular nutritional needs. Your diet is initially determined by your culture, but dietary habits can easily be altered to address health and moral issues.
There are several reasons people elect to change their dietary habits. The most common is weight loss, as is evidenced by the multi-billion-dollar weight-loss industry. Health is another factor, as people discover that eating habits are responsible for, and can help correct, illness and disease.
People also choose special diets for peace of mind, whether they are morally against eating animals or religiously bound to culinary tradition and rules.
Alert
Fasting is a bad idea. Starving yourself may drop a few pounds initially, but you are only losing water and muscle mass. You will most likely gain it right back, and the lack of nourishment can cause physical damage, including gallstones.
