Turkey Loaf
This is an American classic, even with turkey. Some folks like to top it off with ketchup or barbecue sauce, either before or after the oven. If that’s you, look for low-sodium, low-sugar sauces.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 slices sandwich bread or 1 cup bread scraps or crumbs
- ½ cup milk
- 1 egg
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon chili powder
- 1 ½ pounds ground turkey
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Place bread in a large bowl and pour the milk on top of it. Set aside to soften for 15 minutes.
Stir in egg, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, and chili powder to form a paste. Add the meat and mix well.
Pack the meat into a loaf pan, rounding the top like a loaf of bread.
Bake until brown and bubbly, about 45 minutes. If topping with sauce, add it here, and bake an additional 10 minutes to brown.
