The Top Things to Know About WDW
Whenever you travel anywhere there is always bits of informative tips that make your vacation easier. These top things to know about WDW are based on the top questions Disney guests ask several times a day:
You don't have to keep track of, record, or remember several phone numbers. Simply program the number (407) 824-2222 into your cell phone and whenever you need to contact anyplace anywhere on WDW property a WDW operator will connect you. While on property simply dial “0” on any WDW phone.
All four theme parks have 3-D shows and all are excellent.
Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney's MGM have a big nightly show. Animal Kingdom and Downtown Disney do not.
Buses do not run from resort to resort. You must take a bus to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's MGM, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, or the Ticket and Transportation Station, and then wait for another bus for your desired resort. Also, to catch a bus to a park, you must be at a resort or at the Ticket and Transportation Station.
The restaurant inside Cinderella's Castle at Magic Kingdom takes reservations four to six months in advance, so plan accordingly.
California Grill, the top-floor restaurant at the Contemporary overlooking Magic Kingdom, takes reservations two to four months in advance, so plan accordingly.
Soarin' is Epcot's most popular attraction, so as soon as you walk through the morning gates you must walk straight to the Land Pavilion and obtain a FASTPASS for this popular attraction, or they will be gone by noon.
If you like the idea of never having to wait in line for an attraction, visit WDW during the first two weeks of September or the first two weeks of December.
Cast members and managers are trained to meet and overexceed your expectations at WDW, so if you're dissatisfied with anything, always ask to speak to a manager and you will see results.
No gum whatsoever is sold on WDW property and they discourage guests bringing gum onto the property.
Pal Mickey is a talking 12-inch plush Mickey Mouse toy that uses wireless technology. As you explore the various theme parks, Pal Mickey shares over 700 up-to-date real-time tidbits of information. He also tells jokes, and interacts with your child based on where you are within the parks. Pal Mickey is priced at $65. The toy can be bought by searching online or at WDW gift shops at every park and resort.
Smoking is allowed outside only. Theme parks have designated outside smoking areas. There are no cigarette machines at WDW. You may, however, purchase tobacco products at the gift shops. You'll have to ask, because these products are kept hidden behind the counter.
Alcohol is sold everywhere on WDW except at Magic Kingdom. You can also travel with drinks in plastic cups everywhere except the WDW buses. Beer, wine, and liquor are sold in the resort gift shops. The liquor is behind the counter, so you'll have to ask for it.
Want to ride in the nose (front) of the monorail? Simply ask. You may have to wait for one more monorail, but this experience is a thrill for children. The same goes for any ride at WDW. Simply ask to be on the front row, back row, or any row you desire.
WDW has an entire lingo and philosophy. Everyone that works there (almost 60,000) is considered “part of the show.” They are called cast members, and what they wear is called a “costume.” When you see them they are “onstage,” and when you don't they are “backstage.”
You will find that there are many odd (or so they may seem at first) rules and guidelines at WDW. One example is that you may ask for some scissors so that you can cut a band off your wrist. However, cast members are not allowed to give guests anything sharp or allow anything sharp near them. (Just know that for every rule/policy you come across there is a reason behind it.)
When traveling to the Fort Wilderness Campground by bus, you have to get off that bus and catch another bus to go into the campground. If you are traveling by car, you will park and catch the bus into the campground. Only registered cars that are paying to stay in the campground are allowed to enter the campground.
Beignets (been-YAYS), the famous New Orleans pastries, can only be found one place on WDW property, which is at Port Orleans' French Quarter Resort food court. They are the first thing on the left as you walk into the food court.
