What to Do in the Lake Buena Vista/Kissimmee Area
Contrary to popular opinion, the pronunciation of Kissimmee is “kuh-SEM-me” not “KISS-uh-me.” The word is a modern spelling of the sixteenth- and seventeenth-century tribal words Atissimi, Jizimi, and Cacema. The town of Lake Buena Vista was named and is controlled by Walt Disney Company.
Celebration, Florida
Walt Disney dreamed of one day creating an actual town. Well, in 1996, Walt's dream became a reality when the town of Celebration, Florida, was officially founded. This town of yesterday has charm and family appeal. The community even has its own schools and hospital with a focus on technology. While Celebration is a private residential community, tourists are invited to explore the unique shops and restaurants, and to take in the atmosphere of this storybook-like community.
