Lanai is not on the average tourist's list, but it is nonetheless easy to get to. There are regular flights to Lanai's small airport from Honolulu, Maui, and Molokai, and a ferry service runs from Maui to the island's small boat harbor at Manele Bay.
The airport is located about 5 miles from Lanai City. The following companies offer flights to Lanai:
Hawaiian Airlines flies to Lanai from Honolulu and Molokai. www.hawaiianair.com
Island Air flies from Honolulu and Kahului, Maui. www.islandair.com
Pacific Wings flies daily to Lanai from Kahului, Maui. www.pacificwings.com
The Expeditions Ferry operates between Lahaina, Maui, and the island of Lanai. The ferry makes five roundtrips a day beginning at 6:45 A.M. from Lahaina Harbor. The last boat returning from Lanai leaves from Manele Harbor at 6:45 P.M. Tickets cost $25 each way, $20 for children ages 2–11. The ferry company also offers “Explore Lanai” day and overnight tours and activities packages. www.go-lanai.com
Around the Island
There is no public transportation on the island of Lanai. Given that many of the island's roads are unpaved, you'd probably do well to rent a four-wheel-drive vehicle. This will be helpful, if not absolutely necessary, for exploring some of the island's more interesting landscapes and attractions. Your car rental service or hotel should be able to provide you with maps that will hopefully keep you on the right path. Keep in mind that weather conditions can change dusty, rutted, unpaved roads into muddy and possibly impassable slogs.

Rabaca's Limousine Service can drive you in luxury wherever you want to go, on roads paved or otherwise. 565-7227).
JUST FOR PARENTS
Is quiet Lanai a good place for the kids? The little ones probably won't complain, and if your older children like the outdoors, they might really enjoy it. The two big hotels (Manele Bay Hotel and The Lodge at Koele) both have great programs for kids. If your teenager requires constant entertainment, however, the island might not be the best choice.
