Sorting Through the Choices
When it comes to choosing your accommodations on the Big Island, you've got a lot to choose from. It's no surprise that there are plenty of hotels on the sunny leeward slopes of Kona and Kohala but there are also some nice ones to be found in the population center of Hilo, at Waimea, and a few in the vicinity of the popular Volcanoes Park.
TRAVEL TIP
If price is a concern, you can find plenty of rooms for under $100 in Hilo, where the climate can be a bit on the rainy side. If the weather is more important, expect the rates to be higher — at some resorts, the price may exceed $500 per night.
The Big Island has a good number of condominiums, including condo resorts, time-shares, and private rentals. A few of the resorts of this sort can be found in the listings below. There are also a good number of little bed-and-breakfast establishments scattered about the island. To find some of these, take a look at the Web site of the Hawaii Island B&B Association at www.stayhawaii.com. The following selection of Big Island accommodations is organized by price and location.
