Getting Around Tampa

There's a good working public transit system in Tampa, but you may still prefer to use a car to see the sights and get to the beaches. Beware of the one-way streets downtown. Buses, streetcars, and trolleys run throughout the county (813-254-4278). The streetcar line connects the waterfront to Ybor City, with stops at major attractions in between.

Best Time to Go

With an annual temperature of just 73°F, almost any time is a good time to visit the Tampa Bay area. Spring and fall days are warm, with nights comfortably cool. Daytime temperatures rise in the summer but not by much, and are usually cooled off by afternoon showers.

Cautions and Safety Concerns

The Tampa area is a relatively safe place, making it a great destination for families. About the only precaution is to make sure not to get overexposed to the intense Florida sun, especially in the summer. Ocean breezes can make it seem comfortable, but, at the same time, you could be getting a severe sunburn if not properly protected. Use sunblock with an SPF of at least 15 at all times when in the sun.
