Nines with a One Wing

Self-actualized Nines with a One wing have improved focus. They can actually get their ducks in a row, prioritize, and get things done in a timely manner. Positive One energy also helps Nines set firm boundaries based on crystallized views of what is right and what is wrong. They develop their own values instead of blindly accepting what those around them think or feel. Their strong sense of moral imperatives may spur them to tackle social issues or develop missionary zeal for worthwhile causes.

Your more typical ego-driven Nine with a One wing is commonly a lost soul. According to The Literary Enneagram, a perfect example would be Harry “Rabbit” Angstom, John Updike's antihero in the Rabbit novels (Rabbit Run, Rabbit Redux, Rabbit Is Rich, Rabbit at Rest, plus the novella Rabbit Remembered). Rabbit peaked in high school and then spent the rest of his life neither here nor there, never quite able to make up his mind.

However, pathological Nines with a One wing may wield their values as weapons, becoming hypercritical, condescending, and judgmental. Worst of all, they usually treat themselves equally bad. When things fall apart, they may latch onto a zealot and walk around blindly following the wrong path as if they are under a bad spell.
