TTouch

While it may seem similar to massage, TTouch is a different kind of therapy. Developed by animal expert Linda Tellington-Jones, it uses simple, circular movements of the hands over a dog's body with the purpose of activating cellular function. These touches cause changes in brain wave patterns that are different from those evoked by massage or petting. The effect of TTouch has been described as “turning on the electric lights of the body.”

Benefits of TTouch include improved circulation, coordination, and general health. It has also been used to help restore function in dogs with both acute and chronic problems such as hip dysplasia, spondylosis, cruciate ligament damage, and arthritis. For dogs with emotional or behavioral problems, or that have suffered a physical trauma, TTouch can help reduce tension and induce calm. Anyone can learn to perform TTouch, and it's a great way to build a bond with your dog and help him with any health problems he may have. See Appendix A for more information on finding a TTouch practitioner or learning TTouch techniques.
