Fixing Holes
All groomers have had oops days. Dogs will move while you are scissoring, and before you know it, a chunk of hair that you didn't intend to cut is lying on the floor. If you aren't paying attention, you may accidentally use the wrong-size blade on your clipper and shave an extremely short area on the dog before you realize your mistake.
Another problem has to do with snap-on combs that go over your clipper blade. They can pop off while you are clipping and leave an almost bald patch. Now what do you do? Well, sometimes things happen and you just have to make the best of it.
Sometimes the oops can be drastic, and that may call for an entirely different hairstyle on the dog. Most pet owners understand and don't mind the rare goof as long as you make the best of it.
If the oops spot isn't too large, you can use your thinning shears to blend in the hair around it so it won't stick out like a sore thumb. However, if you've really goofed up, it's time to get creative.
Tattoos are all the rage these days. Groomers have been known to fix an oops by carving the area into a shape — maybe a heart — and coloring the short area with a Blo-pen® or magic marker to make a tattoo for the dog.
The funny thing is, owners will be upset if you leave an oops where everyone can see it, but if you turn that area into a tattoo, that's reason to show off their dog's unique hairdo. They may even request it the next time they bring their dog to you!
