Light is what makes photography happen. In fact, the word photography comes from the Greek and means light (photo) drawing (graphy). The more you know about light, the better your photographs will be. Working with the existing light often creates the best and most natural photographs, but frequently there is not enough light or the light is too harsh and you may need to use a flash. This chapter explains the technical side of lighting. Chapter 11 discusses the artistic use of light.
