On a large mixing console, it's not uncommon to find EQ, a noise gate, and a compressor on each channel. Because these are the most commonly used effects, it's useful to have them hard-wired. Plug-ins can also combine EQ, compression, and gating into one plug-in. These plug-ins are so useful, you might even use them on every track in your mix. Figure 16-4 shows a shot of ChannelStrip by Metric Halo.
