Knowing Your Limitations

You cannot make your loved one well. Only he can do that, given support, therapy, and time. Trying to remain objective is going to be difficult. Sometimes you might just want to scream with the frustration of it all. You want to solve the problem. It all seems so simple. Just do this and do that, and everything will be fine. It's not that easy, however. You have no control over how another person acts, and this goes doubly for someone with depression. If you can coax a smile here and there, that's a good sign. Don't be discouraged, however, if that small smile doesn't become a big grin. It's going to take some time for your loved one to break free. Remember, no one wants to be depressed. Being depressed is — depressing!
