Puppies Will Be Puppies
You probably think your dachshund puppy is the cutest thing ever, don't you? There's a reason for that. If they weren't so cute, no one could put up with all the crazy puppy antics and behaviors. The important thing to remember through the first eight months with your puppy is that all the nips, barking, chewing, jumping up, and other behaviors are simply that, behaviors — perfectly normal behaviors. There is nothing wrong with your puppy. If you were a puppy yourself, you would understand this. Of course, you're human, and so you find your puppy's methods of communicating her wants, needs, and intentions, as well as her attempts to engage you in puppy play, as inappropriate conduct.
The good news is that it's really no problem to convince your puppy that she must behave the way you think a good dog should. If there's one thing a dachshund sincerely wants to do, it is to please you. You can use your pup's strong desire to please you to help fade out the behaviors that aren't acceptable and introduce new behaviors that are.
