One of the keys to having a well-mannered dachshund is to train her to be a good family pet. This sounds easy enough; however, many dog owners miss out on early training for puppies. Decades ago, it used to be that no training school would accept any puppy under the age of six months. The training methods were much harsher back then and weren't suitable for any dog, much less puppies.
Today's training classes offer a myriad of choices. You'll be sure to find one you enjoy The difficulty is timing things so that your puppy can begin as early as possible. You won't want to go to a class before your puppy is three-and-a-half to four months old. Before this age, she may not have the proper antibodies to fight off some very serious and fatal viruses that other dogs could be carrying.
On your puppy's first visit, ask your vet when she recommends your dachsie begin training classes. Once you have this date, find a training class and sign up. Puppy classes fill up very quickly, and you don't want to have to wait until your dachsie is much older before you can get a spot.
