Dear Ms. Cummings:
John Curran, whom I saw recently at the ABA convention, spoke highly of your creative, market-sensitive approach to publishing and the tremendous impact you have had on Any Publishing. He also said you might have plans to expand your editorial team and suggested that I write you.
As is described with great pride on the attached resume, I have seven years of experience as a nonfiction editor. For the past two years, I have acquired books for Other Publisher's Professional Book Group, where I work with authors on books that address the wide range of challenges facing today's managers and small-business owners. I also acquire books on personal business topics for the career/self-help market, like Kelly Miller's Loving Your Job. This recent release has already received a strong response from book clubs (20,000-copy advance order) and an enthusiastic endorsement from Francis Morin (as quoted on the attached release).
Earlier in my career, I acquired and edited books on health, fitness, recreation, and other nonfiction topics for Stevens & Dunn. Although designed for the academic environment, these books had strong crossover appeal to the trade market. My passion for procuring authors, negotiating contacts, and transforming book ideas into profitable, well-crafted, and popular works remains strong!
Could we meet to discuss the possibility of an opening at Any Publishing? Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Chris Smith
