Subject: Exceptional Meeting Planner Candidate

TO: Pat Cummings, Vice President, Marketing

I would like to be Any Corporation's meeting planner. After reading your announcement in the Chronicle, I was eager to share my qualifications via the attached resume and letters of recommendation. After evaluating those documents, I hope you would allow me the opportunity to interview for this exciting opportunity.

As you review my resume entries and statements made by colleagues, envision the many times I have worked with marketing professionals to plan, implement, and evaluate the cost-benefit ratio of special events. Over the years I worked with colleagues, caterers, hospitality professionals, musicians, florists, and an amazing number of others to create memorable events. Whether small gatherings for board committees or annual dealership and sales meetings attended by hundreds, each event followed well-conceived plans and achieved clearly defined goals. In many cases, events were promotional, launching new products or marketing campaigns, achieving maximum publicity and attendance, as well as consumer attitudes and actions. Often they were community focused, associating the employer's name with meaningful undertakings. Do you remember last year's 10K run for breast cancer that raised over $3 million?

I have held positions that required communications, sales, marketing, and supervisory skills in retailing, media, and educational environments. While I have had the titles of marketing assistant, campaign organizer, and account supervisor, no matter what I was called, I was an achievement-focused, detail-oriented, enthusiastic meeting planner. I hope soon we can discuss whether my future includes a role as Any Corporation's Meeting Planner. I will call to discuss your thoughts regarding an interview and, ideally, to creatively share ideas about your next events.

Sincerely,
Chris Smith
