Dear Mr. Cummings:
I am writing in response to your recent posting on Jobs.com for a legal assistant. Having recently earned a certificate of paralegal studies, I intend to relocate to Chicago. Related work experience and scholastic endeavors have prepared me for employment in a firm that specializes in general practice. Ideally, that firm will be Any Law Firm, and I will be given the opportunity to be a strong member of your legal support team.
This fall and past summer, I interned for a small general-practice firm where I was entrusted with a great deal of responsibility. In a paralegal capacity I researched, wrote, and proofed appellate briefs; composed memoranda pertaining to corporate, contract, and criminal law; and drafted complaints and answers. I was an active participant in attorney-client conferences, interviewing clients and addressing how the law affects clients' suits, as well as raising potential consequences of varied legal outcomes.
Attached is a copy of my resume, which illustrates my specialized paralegal studies, undergraduate accounting studies, and all pertinent internship experiences. During an initial telephone interview and, subsequent to my relocation, via an in-person meeting, I would be happy to detail my qualifications and motivations to join Any Law Firm as a Legal Assistant.
In advance, thank you for your consideration. I look forward to someday soon discussing my background over the phone and to meeting you in person.
With best regards,
