SUBJECT: ASSISTANT CURATOR POSITION
Please consider me a strong, enthusiastic and focused candidate for the Assistant Curator position recently advertised on www.jobs.com.
My experience acting as Assistant Editor of Classics Quarterly, writing classical music reviews for the Complete Record Guide, conducting interviews, and writing concert reviews for Chicago Rock, and rock and country album reviews for Inside Edge, have fine-tuned my writing talents and enhanced my knowledge of music genres. As the Classical Music Listings Coordinator for the Complete Musical Almanac summer and fall supplements, I updated a comprehensive database and oversaw creation of a system that stores and retrieves past editions, using key words, dates, composers and genre. Currently, I am copyediting part-time for Art Illinois. Clearly, my professional past, as detailed on the attached resume, reveals a commitment to music education, archiving, and dissemination.
The foundation upon which I built the above accomplishments is my academic training. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master of Arts in Musicology from DePaul University. A study of music and the arts at Cambridge University (England) preceded part-time doctoral studies at the University of Chicago. I am ready, eager and, I trust, qualified to serve full-time in roles associated with my exploration of all aspects of musicology.
I have often relied on the resources available at Any Music Library, and I would welcome the opportunity to join your curatorial staff. I would be happy to further discuss the position. Would your schedule allow for a brief discussion next week? I will call your office to schedule a convenient interview time. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Chris Smith
