Waldorf Salad

This salad was named after the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City where it was first made. Now there are so many versions of it, it has become a famous-named salad.

DIFFICULTY: MEDIUM

Makes 4 servings

1 large red apple

2 stalks celery

2 tablespoons nuts

2 tablespoons raisins

1 teaspoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons mayonnaise

  • Chop the apple, celery, and nuts into ½″ chunks. (If you don't have an apple corer, ask an adult to help you get the stem and seeds out of the apple.)

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl. Mix well.

  • Keep the salad refrigerated until you are ready to serve it.

Keep your foods from turning brown

When you cut up fresh fruits like apples and bananas, add a little orange juice or lemon juice to the fruit. The acid in the juice helps keep the fruit from turning brown after it is exposed to the air.
