Oven-Dried Chicken Shreds for Dogs Recipe
Chicken is one of the most commonly used meats in the world, and no dog would ever turn up his nose if you said, “It tastes just like chicken.”
YIELDS ► 1 cup
RECOMMENDED FOR ► Wheat- and gluten-free
- 1 boneless chicken breast
- 2 teaspoons virgin olive oil
Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
Roughly slice the chicken breast into cutlets about ¼-inch thick. Rub the chicken pieces thoroughly with the olive oil.
Heat a grill pan and cook the chicken cutlets until they are browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes each side.
Using your hands, tear the chicken pieces into shreds. Spread the shredded chicken on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes until the shreds are dry and firm to the touch.
Store them in a resealable plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to one week.
Home Dehydration Units
If you want to produce the true leathery texture associated with commercially produced dehydrated chicken or salmon, you can buy a small dehydration machine for under $50. Food dehydrators can dry everything — flowers, fruits, vegetables, and meats. The process can take up to eight hours and reduces the contents by more than half.
