Garlic Croutons for Dogs Recipe
Any bread that is thinly sliced for tea sandwiches or is called “cocktail” bread can be used in this recipe. If you can't find it in the bread section of your grocery, look at the deli counter.
YIELDS ► 1 cup
RECOMMENDED FOR ► Quick and easy
- ¼ cup virgin olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 3 slices Pepperidge Farm's Wheat Bread, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons Romano cheese, grated
Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
Mix the olive oil and minced garlic in a glass measuring cup. Using a pastry brush or silicone basting brush, brush both sides of the bread with the oil-garlic mixture.
Using a serrated knife, cut the bread into strips about ⅜-inch wide. Cut the strips into cubes. Place the bread cubes on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
Bake for 15 minutes till brown and crunchy. Turn off the oven.
Sprinkle the cubes with the cheese and toss gently. Return the bread cubes to the oven for another 10 minutes.
Store them in a resealable plastic bag at room temperature for one week.
Heels of Bread
If you don't want to purchase special bread to make these croutons, simply save the heels of the bread you regularly use. It won't matter even if they are stale. If you use Italian bread, the croutons can be a tasty treat for your next salad.
