Bleu Cheese Pop 'Ems for Dogs Recipe
Rolling the pop 'ems is a perfect job for a preschooler, and the results are nearly immediate.
YIELDS ► 1 cup
RECOMMENDED FOR ► Quick and easy
- ¾ cup plain shredded wheat cereal
- ¼ cup natural bleu cheese, crumbled
- 2 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
Place the cereal in a plastic bag and use a rolling pin to crush it into crumbs.
Place the bleu cheese and cream cheese on a plate, and mash them with a fork until they are smooth and combined.
Pour the crumbs into a bowl, and add the bleu cheese — cream cheese mixture. Mix until combined but still soft.
Roll the mixture into small balls, about the size of a gumball.
Store them in a resealable plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to one week.
Getting Kids Involved
It is never too early to teach your children about nutrition, whether it's their own or the family dog's. If they learn that Fifi should eat only food that has been bought or prepared for her, they won't be tempted to slip her scraps from the table or offer her any other “people food.”
