Corn-Stuffed Fish for Dogs Recipe
If your dog can't tolerate corn, you can substitute any vegetable, including carrots, zucchini, and even beets. For a savory “stuffing,” add some cooked chicken or turkey sausage meat.
YIELDS ► 16 servings
SERVING SIZE ► 2 tablespoons
RECOMMENDED FOR ► Diet-friendly
- 2 tablespoons unbleached flour
- 6 ounces whitefish, sliced into small fillets
- 2 tablespoons virgin olive oil, divided
- ½ cup Fish and Chips Biscuits
- ¼ cup frozen corn niblets
- 1 clove garlic, chopped
- ¼ cup organic chicken broth
Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
Place the flour on a piece of waxed paper. Dip the fish in the flour to coat it.
Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a heavy saucepan over medium heat. Gently and lightly sauté the floured fillets in the hot oil; remove from the pan to a baking dish. Set aside.
Break the biscuits into bite-size bits and mix them with the corn.
Add the remaining olive oil to the saucepan. Add the garlic and sauté lightly. Add the biscuits and corn mix and continue to cook 1–2 minutes. Add the chicken broth until the biscuits are softened but not mushy.
Spread the corn biscuit mash over the fillets and bake them for 10 minutes.
Flake the cooked fish fillets and add extra chicken broth if desired. Serve over kibble.
Maize Maze
The official name for corn is maize, and it's known to grow “as high as an elephant's eye.” Mazes of maize are tourist attractions in many farming communities in the United States and Canada. A maze of maize can be designed at the start of a growing season and will mature to the proper height by the start of the summer.
