BBQ Buffalo Burgers for Dogs Recipe

Bison meat is very lean and a good choice for dogs that need to watch their fat intake. Cook at a lower temperature than you would beef, turn the burgers only once, and coat your grill with cooking spray or olive oil. Serve rare or medium rare; otherwise the meat will dry out.

YIELDS ► 16 servings
SERVING SIZE ► 2 tablespoons

  • ½ cup Bleu Cheese and Tomato Biscuits
  • ¼ cup organic beef broth
  • 1 organic egg, beaten
  • ½ pound ground bison
  • 1 tablespoon bleu cheese, crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons prepared barbecue sauce
  1. Heat the oven to 350ºF.

  2. Soak the biscuits in the beef broth in a small bowl until they turn to mush.

  3. Add the beaten egg, ground bison, bleu cheese, and barbecue sauce. Use your hands or a spatula to mix ingredients thoroughly.

  4. Pat the ground bison mixture into small burgers and grill for about 3 minutes per side.

  5. Use a fork to break the burgers apart and serve over kibble, thinning with more beef broth if desired.

The Skinny on Bison

Compared to other meats, bison packs more protein and nutrients. It contains about four times less fat than beef or pork and about three times less fat than chicken. Bison are generally not subjected to hormones or antibiotics and are strictly grass fed. Bison is a rich, filling meat that has a slightly sweet taste.
