Sweet Potato Oven Chips for Dogs Recipe
You can use any type of potato you prefer, but the sweet potato's natural sweetness combines with the cheese to create a perfect blend of sweet and savory. If you want to offer the chips to your family, simply sprinkle their portion with a little sea salt or kosher salt.
YIELDS ► 1 cup
RECOMMENDED FOR ► Wheat- and gluten-free, Diet-friendly, Quick and easy
- 1 sweet potato
- ¼ cup virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated Romano cheese
Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
Wash and peel the sweet potato. Slice it crosswise into very thin slices and place it in a single layer on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
Using a silicon pastry brush, lightly coat the potato slices with the olive oil. Place them in the oven and bake for 30 minutes or until the potato slices are crisp and crunchy.
Remove the cookie sheet and sprinkle the “chips” with the grated cheese. Return the pan to the oven and allow the cheese to set for a minute or two. Cool the chips and store them in a resealable plastic bag at room temperature. Eat within three days.
The First Chip
Ironically, the potato chip, that beloved American snack, was born out of anger. One persnickety customer at Moon's Lake House near Saratoga Springs, New York, kept sending his fried potatoes back to the kitchen, complaining they weren't crisp enough. Chef George Crum made the potatoes as crisp as he could. To Crum's chagrin, the guest was thrilled. They became an immediate hit, and the lodge included what it dubbed “Saratoga Chips” on its regular menu.
