Skewered Turkey and Sweet Potato for Dogs Recipe

Traditionally served as part of a full English breakfast, orange marmalade has a sweet and bitter tang that is thought to calm an upset stomach.

YIELDS ► 24 servings
SERVING SIZE ► 2 tablespoons
RECOMMENDED FOR ► Wheat- and gluten-free

  • 1 turkey breast
  • 1 sweet potato, boiled and cooled
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • ½ apple, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon prepared barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon orange marmalade
  • 2 tablespoons organic chicken broth
  1. Rinse the turkey breast and pat it dry with paper towels. Cut it into large cubes and place them in a shallow bowl. Peel the cooked sweet potato and cut it into 1-inch chunks. Add them to the turkey and toss with canola oil. Add the apple chunks and orange juice. Let rest for 20 minutes.

  2. Preheat the broiler and move the oven rack to the uppermost rung. Thread the turkey, sweet potato, and apple on skewers. Spray a foil-lined pan with cooking spray. Place the skewers on the pan and broil 4 minutes each side.

  3. Mix the barbecue sauce and marmalade in a measuring cup. Brush the skewers with the orange barbecue sauce and return them to the oven. Grill 3–5 minutes longer on each side.

  4. When the skewers are cool enough to handle, remove the turkey, potatoes, and apples. Shred the turkey into bite-size pieces, and use a fork to break up the potatoes and apples. Serve over kibble with 2 tablespoons chicken broth.
