Slow Cooker Applesauce by Shana Priwer and Cynthia Phillips
Slow cookers are a venerable gift to busy parents. Prepare your ingredients the night before, throw it all in the slow cooker, and have a delicious meal waiting for you at dinnertime.
10 Servings
5–6 medium apples
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ cup sugar, optional
1 teaspoon lemon juice
½ cup water
Wash, peel, and core the apples. Cut into chunks.
Combine all ingredients in the slow cooker. Set on low.
Cook for about 8 hours, stirring every hour or so, until the apples are completely cooked.
If the applesauce is still chunkier than you'd like, run it through a food processor or blender.
Apple Replacements
No apples to be found? You can make slow cooker fruit sauce from just about anything that's in season — pears, peaches, plums, etc. Just adjust the cooking time as necessary; ripe pears, for example, won't take as long to cook as firm apples.
