Poached Egg Yolks

When adding egg yolk to your baby's diet, start slow. At first, offer just a single bite of egg yolk, and see how she likes the taste and texture. Gradually increase the amount of egg yolk you offer, but remember to withhold egg whites until your baby's first birthday.

1 Serving

1 egg

2 cups water

¼ cup breastmilk or formula

  • Crack the egg and separate out the yolk. Discard the white.

  • Bring the water to a boil in a medium saucepan.

  • Reduce the water to a simmer, and then slide in the egg yolk. Cook until firm, about 3–4 minutes.

  • Mash the egg yolk with a fork. Add breastmilk or formula, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the egg has a creamy texture.
