Meatloaf by Shana Priwer and Cynthia Phillips
One of the most homey comfort foods you can imagine, meatloaf hits the spot with the entire family after a long day at school and work. This recipe is much like the “adult” version, minus the heavy seasonings.
4 Servings
½ pound ground beef
¼ cup milk or water
1 egg
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
¼ teaspoon oregano
¼ teaspoon parsley dash of salt and pepper
¼ cup bread crumbs
½ small onion, diced
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a medium bowl, mix the ground beef, egg, and milk together. Stir well.
Add in the ketchup, Worcestershire, oregano, parsley, salt, pepper, bread crumbs, and onions. Mix thoroughly to combine, using your hands if necessary.
Place in an ovenproof baking dish and cook at 350°F for 1 hour. Allow to cool before slicing and serving.
To Sauce or Not to Sauce
A fun alternative to standard meatloaf is to coat it with a glaze. Pour ½ cup tomato sauce over the top, spread with a spoon, and bake. If tomato sauce is scarce, ketchup or honey-mustard sauce is a good substitute.
